(1) To increase fish populations, AFA volunteers feed and care for 50,000 fish in protective cages throughout the Winter and then release them in Spring to repopulate the lake. (2) AFA, along with the local Elks Club, organizes a day of fishing and a BBQ for our veterans in recognition of their service to our country. (3) Along with teachers and parents, AFA volunteers provide an engaging day of fishing for 4th grade students. (4) To date, AFA has awarded nearly 100 scholarships to local area graduating seniors.
California Trout works to restore vibrancy and abundance to California's freshwater ecosystems and to keep them that way for many years to come. With the help of many local and national organizations, California Trout has improved the habitats of several fish species throughout California.
Support the activities of the Chico Area Flyfishers club.
Project Healing Waters (PHW) helps active military service personnel and veterans in need through a dedicated, developed curriculum of fly fishing, fly casting, fly tying, and fly rod building. PHW provides therapeutic outdoor recreation, using the sport of fly fishing as an intervention, to promote healing.
The Salmon in the Classroom program supports students in raising salmon and trout from eggs to their fry stage in their classrooms. After which, the students release the fry into a local stream or river. The purpose is to educate students about watershed health, salmon life cycles, and the importance of conservation.
California Trout promotes and supports habitat restoration, youth education and local groups to improve watersheds and ecosystems.
